Utah Opera Festival

This July I went with my parents to the Utah Opera Festival up in Logan! We drove up in the afternoon checked into the Marriott then went to have a wonderful dinner at Hamilton's steak house. We began our opera festival marathon with a show that night, it was a Learner and Loewe concert so there were selections from Gygi, My Fair Lady, Camelot and Paint Your Wagon it was a fun way to start our weekend!

The next day dad and I got up in time to go for a bike ride up a green canyon. It was such a beautiful trail. I got sick half way through so dad continued on and I took some nice nature pictures while I waited for him. After we got all cleaned up and three of us went to Ihop for breakfast then headed off to our matinee showing of "George M." (Cohan) he was the famous songwriter that wrote Yankee Doodle Dandie, It's a Grand Old Flag, Regards to Broadway etc. Then we had the afternoon free for a nap and time to relax. Then for dinner we went to the classic Bluebird Cafe where grandma and grandpa Christensen used to eat, it was a fun, cute little diner. That night we went to see Guys and Dolls and it was fabulous! Afterward we drove up the hill to see the gorgeous temple at night. I had never seen the Logan temple before, it is so unique and it was rather breath taking all lit up at night.

The next day dad and I went on another bike ride. This time it was a paved route around the town, it lead us all over campus, where we stopped to take a picture in front of the famous Aggie tower. Then we biked up to see the temple grounds during the day it was still exquisite in the daylight. Then we picked up mom and headed to Ihop for another huge breakfast then headed to today's matinee which was the opera La Traviata by Verdi. I will admit I was a little nervous about how I was going to like the opera but as it turns out it was amazing, the music was sensational as was the set designs and costumes. After the show we made sure to get some Aggie ice cream, we wanted to make sure we did everything that Logan is famous for while we were visiting. After our afternoon break we went to dinner at Elements which is right next door to our hotel it was a modern and chic place that had phenomenal food. We finished our wonderful, show filled weekend with The Sound of Music, you just can't go wrong with that show it was a perfect ending to our fun weekend get away.

Before driving home we had a farewell breakfast at, where else, Ihop then stopped off at a cute little antique store. It turned out to be huge and we were in there forever! but we all found something fun, I found some cute retro earrings and a gold and pearl bracelet. They were fun momentos of a fantastic weekend.
