Old Town of Innsbruck

The next day, we made a day trip into Innsbruck, Austria, known as the Capital City of the Alps. The historic part of town is colorful, charming, and everything you would want in a fairytale-esque European town.

The Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) is a landmark structure located in the Old Town section of Innsbruck, Austria. It is considered the city's most famous symbol. Completed in 1500, the roof was decorated with 2,657 fire-gilded copper tiles for Emperor Maximilian I to mark his wedding to Bianca Maria Sforza. The Emperor and his wife used the balcony to observe festivals, tournaments, and other events that took place in the square below.

We wandered in and out of the charming, little shops that were full of traditional Austrian goods.

For lunch we went to Strudel-Cafe Kroll, which is known for having some of the best strudel in town!  Strudel is a traditional Tyrolean dish and is an Austrian staple. The classic strudel is apples and sweet cheese wrapped in crispy, buttery pastry.

One of the reasons Cafe Kroll is so well known, is because of it's vast variety of different kinds of strudel, both savory and sweet. It was a hard to pick which ones to try!

We got four types of sweet strudel and three types of savory, all were so flavorful and delicious.

They also had super fancy Red Bulls, which are always very much needed while traveling. Plus, it's always fun to get a Red Bull in Austria since it's where the life-giving drink was invented.
