After our day in Taos, we packed up, said goodbye to our tranquil resort and began the drive to Santa Fe. The drive from Taos to Santa Fe is only about an hour and a half if you were to drive it straight through. But there were a couple of fun things we did along the way.
First, we stopped to have a relaxing float trip down the Rio Grande. This was such a fun experience and was so different than the other things we did on the tour. We were divided up into about 5 rafts, and each raft had a native Pueblo guide who chatted with us during our 2 hour float. Our guide was so adorable, he told us his life story, the history of his ancestors and then answered any and all questions our raft mates had. It was super informative and we really learned so much about what life is like for Pueblo Native Americans.
The water was calm and the sun was shining, but it wasn't too hot, it was the perfect temperature for a float down the river. It was so relaxing and beautiful.
After our lovely time on the river, we all gathered at a pavilion that had been decorated with beautiful Pueblo made blankets, mica speckled pots and other arts. There was a family style lunch waiting for us that was homemade by a native pueblo family. Before and after lunch we had time to mingle with the artisans who taught us how they make baskets and drums.
