Sunflower Festival

In July, our little quarantine bubble group went on an outing to the Sunflower Festival at Cross E Ranch. I was super impressed with this festival, they hadn't ever done this before and had created it because of Covid and how it limited the kinds of activities families could do.

They planted 14 acres with 20 different varieties of sunflowers in May, and by July they had a very impressive field of flowers. It was the perfect place to have a great time while socially distancing outdoors.

We bought our tickets online and only needed to wear our masks while entering and exiting the festival. As soon as we entered, we headed straight to the back of the field so that we could have plenty of space to ourselves, and not have to worry about being around other guests.

Sunflowers and Vienne's favorite flower, so she was in heaven.

The day we went was cloudy and overcast, and we even had a little sprinkle of rain for a few minutes during our visit. The cooler temperatures felt great, we had tailgated for dinner with some take out from Hires Big H, and we had all gotten sooooo hot. So the clouds and the rain were very much appreciated.

When we arrived at the festival, we were given a pair of shears for our party and a small bucket of water so that we could cut our own blooms! One bloom is included with each ticket and then it was only $2 per bloom after that. We all had a great time picking out which flowers we wanted to take home.

When we were ready to go home, we took our cut blooms to the front and they wrapped them up in paper for us.

And one photo with our masks to remember the weirdness that is 2020.

I put my sunflowers in a blue and white vase and they looked gorgeous. I made sure to get one stem that had a couple of buds on it so that I would have the opportunity to watch them bloom.

My little buds began to open up just two days later! I thought it would take them longer to open, they were so cute and little!

It was a full time job keeping Dinah from eating my flowers, she just could not resist them.

She eventually did eat most of the petals off one of the flowers and another one just dropped all of it's petals after about a week or so. But my arrangement still looked so pretty and fun with all my blooms at different stages.

I absolutely loved this festival, it felt so great to be able to get out and do something fun and safe with the family, we haven't been able to do an outing for months. And I am so impressed with the quality of this festival, Cross E Ranch is the best and I'm so glad I got the chance to visit them this year. We usually go for the baby animal festival in the spring and the fall harvest festival in the fall but we won't be able to go to those this year.
