The Beach + Antiquing + The Sardine Factory

On our first morning in Carmel, Bethy made us a delicious breakfast of German pancakes with cinnamon apples and berries. Today was Mom's birthday, so it was fun to be able to celebrate her birthday on this family trip as well.

After breakfast we headed to the beach!

The beaches in Carmel are my favorite kind of beaches, the cool windy kind where you need to bundle in sweaters and blankets as you sit in the sand and watch the waves crash in and out.

There were tons of Pelicans that switched from flying above the waves to waddling around the beach several times during our visit.

V was in heaven playing in the waves, building sand castles, and having all the adults attention all of the time.

Something that I learned about my mom is that she loves to build sand castles. She spent a long time building this majestic sand castle.

How sweet is this "then and now" comparison of my mom building sand castles in Carmel. The top picture is her with Karin and the bottom is her and Vienne.

When we were getting ready to leave, we had Reece snap a family picture of us...

...Which got interrupted by an ice cold sneaker wave! My sweet dad is blissfully unaware of what is happening and is still smiling for the photo. I'm so glad Reece kept snapping pictures during the chaos, these are some of my favorite photos ever.

After the beach, half the family went back to the house to take a relaxing, afternoon nap while the rest of us headed to the Monterey Wharf to go antiquing.

On our way to the Antique Mall, we passed by this intriguing Turkish store and cafe, that we couldn't resist checking out.

They had rolls and rolls of freshly made Turkish Delight in such an array of flavors, we simply could not resist getting a box to take home and do a taste test.

They also served several different kinds of Baklava and other Turkish specialities. This store was such a fun an unexpected find!

Then it was time for the Antique Mall! My dad and I had visited this mall before last time we were in Monterey and we both had found such fabulous, treasured finds. We weren't so lucky this time, but I was still able to find one item I loved enough to take home. But it's always fun strolling through antique stores.

See that ornate perfume bottle, that's the item I took home with me, I love it so much.

For dinner that night, the rest of the family came to meet us at the wharf and we dined in the gorgeous conservatory of the classic Sardine Factory.

We passed by several other elegantly decorated rooms on our way to our table, this is the Captain's Room.

When we made our reservation, we asked if we could be seated in the conservatory and they gladly accommodated our request! It was like dining in a fairytale.

Someone said to take a silly picture, but Mike didn't get the memo haha

We had a fun time watching seagulls waddle across the glass ceiling all night

We got to celebrate Mom and her birthday with this classy birthday dessert!

The rest of us got chocolate dipped ice cream bon bons that are served with a dramatic dry ice presentation.
