New Years Eve

New Years Eve was another holiday that was much quieter than normal, we couldn't have the whole family over for our traditional white elephant gift  exchange. So instead we watched movies and did our nails.

V said she wanted to make a birthday cake for Jesus like we did last year around Christmas, we were surprised she even remembered doing it. So Dad made a cake and we all helped decorate it with our special decorations.

A little bit of history of birthday cakes for Jesus and why its a fun tradition to do with the family:

This tradition originated in either England or Germany. More likely Germany because there, Christ’s birth was celebrated in a more overtly religious fashion from the Middle Ages on. The cakes are usually white, representing the purity of Jesus. If any icing is applied, it is often red, signifying the blood that Jesus would eventually shed for humankind. The fact that the cake rises as it is baked represents the resurrection of Christ. The candles on top of the cake are symbolic of the light Christ brought to the world and the fact that His light will never be extinguished. Some cakes incorporate stars which represent the star the wise men followed to Jesus’ crib. Finally, the cake’s sweet taste was is to explain the wonderful life that awaits anyone who comes unto Christ.

V was very happy with the way the cake turned out, it was beautiful.

Even though the family couldn't be with us in person, all their mini me's joined us in counting down  to the new year.

Normally I like to get really dressed up on New Years Eve, but this make-up free, pajama look is very 2020.

The twins.

After the count down and clinking of glasses, we lit the candles and sang happy birthday, V's favorite part of any birthday party.

Then we cut the cake, enjoyed it's yumminess and wished with all our hearts that 2021 will be a better year.

2020 was unbelievably hard, however I did learn and grow a lot through it all and grew closer to my family and close friends. And for that, I am grateful.
