Food and Wine Festival

The next day we headed to EPCOT, we didn't plan our trip around when the Food and Wine Festival was happening, it was just an added bonus of going when we did! Angie had always wanted to go to the festival but hadn't ever been able to make it, so she was so excited!

We picked up a food passport and began our trip around the culinary world.

First up, Greece:
Loaded Greek Nachos - Sausage Crumbles, feta cheese, Tzatziki sauce
Spanakopita - Greek Spinach pie
Bougasta - vanilla custard, lemon honey syrup, cinnamon, phyllo dough

Greek food is so good, I loved all these dishes.

Islands of the Caribbean
Ropa Vieja Empanada - with tomato aioli
Quesito - Puff pastry with sweetened cream cheese and guava sauce

The quesito was my favorite from this stop, but empanadas are always a good idea.

Hawaii
Kalua Pork Slider - Sweet and spicy pineapple chutney and spiced mayo
Passion Fruit Cheesecake - with toasted hazelnuts

The pork slider was delicious! The cheesecake was ok, not super flavorful

Refreshment Port
Beef Brisket Poutine - Beer Cheese Sauce, Poutine Gravy, Crispy Onions
Sweet Potato Poutine - Caramel Sauce, Marshmallows, Pecans

This was my favorite stop! Both Poutines were so delicious and it was so perfect to have sweet and savory tastes to bounce between.

I had dressed up in my Disney Villains shirt today to follow along with the halloween theme of the trip.

While in France, I made sure to stop by L'Artisan des Glaces to try out this pumpkin spice macaron filled with pumpkin ice cream!

Morocco
Chocolate Baklava

It was alright

Mexico
Coconut Rice Pudding - With Mango Coulis

This was delicious!

After eating our weight in Food and Wind Festival Food, we headed back to our hotel for a little afternoon nap. As I mentioned in an earlier post, we stayed at the Pop Century Hotel in the 1950s building. Here are a couple of pictures of how adorable it was.

By each building are characters of a movie that came out during that decade. Since Lady and the Tramp came out in 1955, we got to walk passed these adorable statues of Lady and Tramp everyday.

In the evening we went back to Disney Springs to check out The Void, a virtual reality experience, it basically like stepping into a video game.

We did the Star Wars themed one, our mission was to recover Imperial intelligence vital to the rebellion’s survival. We were disguised as stormtroopers, and were transported to the molten planet of Mustafar. We got geared up in our vests and virtual reality headsets and then we were lead into our adventure. Our mission took us through several different rooms, we had to find weapons, solve puzzles, duck and cover from on coming fire, work with R2D2, and basically save the galaxy! It was SO. Much. Fun!!!

Since we went at the end of the night, Angie and I got to go by ourselves and weren't added onto a larger group. We had fun making our avatars do silly things. After we had completed our mission, and were waiting for the staff to retrieve us, Angie wondered what it would look like if we made our Storm Trooper avatars twerk, we took turns trying while the other analyzed how it looked. We did this for a while, then we were instructed to take our head gear off, so we take them off and turn around to find the ENTIRE staff standing there watching us laughing. It was good times.

After having so much fun and lots of giggling at the Void, we strolled through some of the shops in Disney Springs.

These ride themed back packs are new at the parks and I think they are so adorable.

Love this! If the design wasn't so cutesy, I would have totally of gotten it.

By now it was around 11 pm and we were finally getting a little hungry, most of the restaurants were closed, but Raglan Road stays open until the wee hours of the morn, and since we both love that place we thought it would be the perfect place for the last meal of the trip!

We had SO MUCH FUN! We sang along with some of the songs, danced to others, fended off very awkward attempts to chat us up from the boys at the next table, enjoyed all our yummy food and just had the time of our lives.

I took a lot of videos, but not a lot of photos, so these are blurry stills from those silly videos.

This was such a wonderful birthday trip! Angie and I both got a day to make our dreams come true, mine at the halloween party and hers at the food and wine festival. We shared a lot of laughs and created some very cherished memories! It's a trip I will never forget!
