California Pink Tour: Pink Tea and Rescue Dogs

One of my favorite days of the entire trip was the day we had pink tea and walked rescue dogs in Venice Beach.

We spent the morning relaxing at home, all the Madisons were still pretty sick and needed all the extra rest they could get. We ventured out for a late lunch to Boulon Coffee. This was one of my favorite meals, everything was so delicious and their presentations were absolutely stunning.

Beth and I ordered the iced chai lattes to drink. It had rose vanilla syrup in it and was the most gorgeous, deep color of pink. They poured it table side from a cocktail shaker and added roses for garnishes.

They were the perfect pink drinks for our pink trip

For lunch we ordered the avocado toast and had them make it gluten free so it was more of a salad. It was really good!

The service we received during our meal was above and beyond. Monty was having a rough time, he wasn't feeling the greatest and was having a little bit of a tantrum. He kicked the table and accidentally spilled the majority of one of our drinks (I happened to be documenting our meal at the time and caught the moment perfectly) without us saying anything, the sweet gals running the shop came over and helped us clean it up and poured us an entirely new complimentary drink. We were super grateful.

V loved her italian soda

After our meal, we had a fun little photoshoot in the charming phone booth out front.

Then we headed to the canals to meet up with the rescue pups!
None of us had ever been to this part of Venice beach before, we had a little time to kill before our meet up time so we went exploring. As we were walking along the canals and over the picturesque little bridges it clicked why this area is called Venice.

Then it was finally time to meet the pups! We found this group through Airbnb experiences. There were 5 dogs, all of them so excited to meet us! We were each assigned a dog based on who their foster mom thought would be a good fit. I was paired up with Ernie, a senior chihuahua, how did she know I love chihuahuas?? Ernie loved to be held and also NEEDED to be in front, he would get anxious if he wasn't leading the pack.

Beth and the kids got parted up with Joey, who was the sweetest, lovable little pup, he's the one sitting down in the picture below. He was so gentle and well behaved, perfect for the kiddos. There was one dog who did not do well with kids so the foster mom carried her the entire time.

It was kind of nice to have Ernie be so pushy about needing to be in front, it gave us nice unobstructed views and we got to pick our own pace. I secretly really loved this quirk of Ernie's.

Joey and the kids usually were in the back since the kids couldn't walk as fast. We didn't know this beforehand, but kids aren't allowed to hold the leashes alone. Beth let V hold the leash a couple of times when we were in a controlled, residential area but for most of the time the kids couldn't hold the leash and that created some hurt feelings....

We would occasionally stop for water breaks where we could also snuggle our dogs.

We all loved Ernie so much.

Joey was the best boy.

We made our way down to the beach and the famous Venice Beach Boardwalk.

During our walk I switched walking partners with a cute girl in our group who was visiting from France. She loved Ernie and wanted a turn with him, so I switched Ernie for Honey.

Honey was so sweet, with a little bit of spice. She would stop moving and refuse to walk if she lost sight of her foster mom so I would have to pick her up and get us close to her foster mom to get her walking again. She also would go into a handstand every time she marked something. She was full of quirks and I loved her so much. It's a miracle I didn't adopt her on the spot.

Sweet Joey

We took a little longer break at a grassy area on the beach where the foster mom told us all the dogs back stories, they were all so sad. Many of them had been hit by cars or abused

The boardwalk was loud, busy, crazy, crowded and a little stressful to make it through with our doggie walking companions and two grumpy kids. We couldn't wait to get back to the peaceful serenity of the canal neighborhood.

All the doggies in our group!

We walked for about 2 miles before it was time to say goodbye to our sweet new furry friends. This was such a fun experience! I would love to do it again.

We got stickers and pins to commemorate our time with the dogs.
