Fall Drives 2022

I got out to enjoy the gorgeous fall leaves on several occasions this year, it's something I look forward to all year long! On October 3, Mom and I went up Big Cottonwood canyon in hopes of getting lunch at either Honeycomb Grill at Solitude or Silver Fork Lodge but both were either closed or had random hours because they were transitioning from their summer hours to their winter hours. So we need to remember to go just a week or so earlier next year.

The leaves didn't disappoint though! The drive was gorgeous, we pulled over a few times to fully document how pretty it was.

We spontaneously decided to take a little stroll around Silver Lake. I hadn't ever been there before, Mom has several happy memories from this area from when her family would go up to their cabin when she was a little girl.

We found this breathtaking clump of aspens whose leaved had turned red when we were turning around in the Brighton Resort parking lot, we hadn't ever seen anything like it!

We ended our adventure with lunch at the Beaumont Bakery, one of our favorite places.

I love their avocado toast.

Later that night, mom sent me some adorable photos from some the stories she told me while we were at Silver Lake.

A few days later on October 7, Beth, Mom, the kids and I took our annual Alpine Loop drive. The reds and oranges were all peaking a little later than normal this year, usually we look for them in September.

We made a stop at our favorite camping site near Tibble Fork reservoir.

It's always hard to pull the kids away from this spot, they always have so much fun playing in all the fallen leaves and on the bank of the river. But we needed to keep going on the rest of our drive, we were losing daylight quickly!

This year we got to see the sunset and the moon on our drive. We normally go earlier in the day so this was a beautiful surprise.

We ended our autumn leaf drive with dinner at Foundry Grill, it was beautiful, delicious and so comforting. Their menu was full of seasonal harvest dishes.

On October 19, I took a spontaneous solo drive on the Alpine Loop. The leaves were just as gorgeous. Some of the aspen groves that were still green when we visited before were now a beautiful sunny yellow.
