Character Breakfast and Aulani Luau

The Aulani has two character meals to choose from, one is a breakfast and the other is a dinner. We had such a hard time deciding which one we wanted to try out, we ended up choosing the breakfast and we had such a blast!

Mickey himself welcomes all the guests to the meal and we all got the chance to get a photo with him!

As soon as we were seated, Minnie came by to say hello! She looked so adorable in her Hawaiian muumuu.

All the meals at the Makahiki Restaurant are buffets and have the most wonderful dishes to choose from. There were so many yummy and cute foods in the breakfast buffet, Mickey waffles were a definite must!

There were also tons and tons of savory options, they just weren't as pretty to take pictures of.

My plate was made up of:
Eggs benedict
pina colada yogurt
chocolate glazed donut
red velvet Mickey mouse waffle
Hawaiian french toast
coconut syrup
mango guava juice

The characters and "Aunty" did live Hawaiian inspired ukulele music throughout our meal which was so fun.

We got to meet all the characters as they made the rounds.

I discovered these coconut cream puffs on my second visit to the buffet and they were divine, possibly the best part of the entire buffet.

This was such a fun character experience. The food was amazing and the entertainment was beyond adorable and so festive, I highly recommend!

Later in our trip, we attended the Aulani Luau. We were prepared to enjoy three hours of delicious food and enchanting entertainment, but mother nature had other ideas ...

It was lightly misting rain when we arrived, but we had hope that it would clear up as the evening progressed. It rains often in Hawaii, sometimes it is a torrential downpour and sometimes it sprinkles for a little while and then clears up, we were hoping for the later.

We were greeted with colorful and delicious welcome drinks.

There were several pre-show actives to enjoy while all the guests were arriving. We headed straight for making flower bracelets.

The rain only continued to get worse, and they finally called it and canceled the luau right as it started to POUR rain. We ran as fast as we could in dresses and flip flops to the main building of the hotel. We went over different options for a replacement dinner and we ended up at the Makahiki for a buffet dinner. (We were given full refunds for the luau which was super nice and we got to attend a luau at the Polyneasian Cultural Center, so our trip to Hawaii wasn't completely luau-less.)

The dinner buffet is just as adorable and delectable as the breakfast buffet.

Later that night, after we had all taken showers and changed into comfy, dry pajamas we decided to go get some warm, comforting, deep fried malasadas. Leonard's Bakery is famously the best place on the island to get malasadas, but it is located on the North Shore which is about a 40 minute drive from The Aulani. BUT we discovered there was a Leonard's Bakery food truck just 5 minutes away from our hotel!!

My family used to get the most amazing guava nectar when I was younger. I remember it being pink and thick and the most delicious stuff ever. I haven't been able to find any guava nectar that came anywhere near to being as good as the brand we used to get (which I don't remember). I tried several different brands of guava nectar while in Hawaii and while they were all delicious, none matched the kind from when I was little. Whomp Whomp.

I got one to sip while we waited for our malasadas to be cooked and filled.

We decided to stock up so that we could have malasadas for breakfast in bed for the rest of the trip! We got a mixture of chocolate, coconut and custard filled puffs We were so excited about the coconut filled ones, but were caught a little off guard with how they actually tasted. The coconut flavor wasn't super strong, it was kind of tasted like coconut water. In the future I might skip the coconut ones, and just go straight for the chocolate and custard.

Sugar coated deliciousness!

Coverage of our pool and beach days coming up next!
