For Labor Day, Lisa and I spontaneously decided to go on a camping trip up to the Tetons! It was the best decision ever, we had such a fabulous trip! We began by driving up to Driggs Idaho after work on Friday night. We got there around 1 am and since we had no reservations at any hotel or campsite, we camped in my car in the parking lot of some grocery store .... As unglamorous as it sounds, it was actually super comfortable, and kept us dry from the rain downpour that went on for most of the night.
The best part about camping in the parking lot of a grocery store is that you have wonderful facilities and soooooo many wonderful options for breakfast in the morning. We decided on a couple of jalepano bagels, greek yogurt and a whole box of these delectable pumpkin, cream cheese whoopie pies!
After a wonderfully relaxing morning drove up to Alta Wyoming to do some hiking. It was kinda great not having to back up a tent or anything, we just moved all our stuff from the front to the back and were on our way, what a great portable campsite!
We had gorgeous views on our drive up to the trail head
We set off to try and make it to the top of table mountain to get stunning views of the back of the Tetons.
We found this note taped to the information board for the hike we were about to do, it was left the day before we got there. It's message made us a little nervous .... and kind of excited that we might see some bears ... but mostly nervous. But we decided to go for it anyway.
Seriously, how cute is this little guy. I love love love chipmunks, I think they are the cutest little rodents ever.
Fall was just beginning to show it's face ...
Sadly, we didn't make it to the top. My leg decided to give up on life and there were some pretty threatening storm clouds that were making us nervous. It did start to rain on our way down and the air was filled with the booming sound of thunder. Luckily, Lisa was prepared enough for the both of us and let me borrow a poncho she had, I would have been one grumpy camper!
After we made it back to the bottom, we were hiking for about 5 hours, we got all cleaned up and headed into town for a fun evening of window shopping. Right as we finished parking and strolled up to the main square, the theater company was just setting up for their last shot out of the season. Talk about perfect timing!
After the super intense show, we set off to explore the town!
There are some pretty classy shops up there in Jackson ...
We decided to get some dinner at the Lotus organic Cafe. It was such a cute place with lot of good organic choices for dinner. While we were waiting to be seated all the actors from the shoot out came in, they looked rather different all done up in their indie get ups and their european faux hawks haha but we figured we had picked a good place if it's where all the locals go.
We split a blanca verde pizza with eggplant and basil. It was really good and so nice and fresh.
After dinner we drove out to the nearest campsite and spent another nice, warm, dry night in the car. We had rented a movie at the red box at the grocery store that we had slept at the night before, so we fell asleep watching The Reality of Love on Lisa's laptop. The next day we spent the entire day in Grand Teton National Park. That post will be coming up next, and it is full of some pretty amazing pictures!! Get excited
Oh I love this. You guys are the best! I want to see you again soon!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love the "It's all fun and games until someone loses a wiener." I think I'll buy that and hang it up somewhere someday.
ReplyDeleteFabulous nature pics! You do such a great job capturing the beauty around you in the landscapes and also small details like the moss on a rock or a leaf turning color.
