French Quarter

For our second day in NOLA we decided to take a break from parading during the day and explore the French Quarter.  We began by getting beignets at Cafe Du Monde.  They really are the best beignets in town, and worth the wait for sure.  The weather report said it was supposed to rain today, it never did thank goodness!  But it was soooo crazy humid.  It felt like all the rain got caught in the air.  So my hair, when bizerk the moment I stepped outside.

After our sweet breakfast we spent the rest of the day strolling up and down the streets in the French Quarter, looking at all the decorations and soaking up the fun atmosphere of that part of town.

We did of course take a little stroll down Bourbon Street, the hub of crazy town.  This is where you will see more of the myths of Mardi Gras in reality.  It was definitely the busiest street in the quarter.

Then it was time for lunch.  We decided to go to Domenica because they were one of the places on our king cake list that we needed to cross off.  Domenica is a beautiful restaurant with such good food, and it's not crazy expensive either.  We happen to hit it during happy hour so all the gourmet pizzas were half off, so we got two super deluxe pizzas for 14 dollars, not to shabby.
Domenica's take on the king cake was probably my favorite.  They took a regular spice king cake, cut it in half, filled it with bananas, caramel, and cream.  Then topped it all with marzipan and gold leaf.  I don't think I have to tell you how good it was, I bet y'all can figure that out on your own.
