Luminaria

Thanksgiving Point had a new Christmas Light display this year and we were all excited to go check it out! For years TPI had done drive through Christmas lights, but when they built an office building on the land they used for their drive through course, they had to come up with something new. Enter, Luminaria:

"This enchanting mile walk will transport you into a magical holiday world as you make your way through the captivating Ashton Gardens. The Grand Allee’s 8,000 programmable luminaries blanket the sweeping hill, where each one acts as a pixel in a moving picture of blooming poinsettias, flying reindeer, and dynamic symbols of the season. And on top of that 40-foot hill, you’ll be met with the colossal 120-foot tree—all lit up and ready to be admired.

Looking for a quiet moment of reflection? View the nativity scene before entering the new Light of the World Garden. Glowing lanterns and peaceful music accompany this space featuring 35 monument- sized bronze sculptures depicting scenes of Jesus Christ from the New Testament.

Continue your holiday stroll while indulging all your senses in special touches like s’mores at the glowing fire pits, hot chocolate and sweets from the gift boutique, interactive game areas for children and adults alike, even peppermint-scented mulch."

I had seen lots of pictures of this stunning hillside, but I hadn't seen pictures of anything else Luminaria had to offer so I didn't really know what to expect. All of us were pleasantly surprised by all the fun, imaginative and unique light displays we encountered along the mile long walk through the gardens.

There was a floral scent floating through the air as we walked passed this garden of lights

Happening upon a couple of live reindeer was a very happy surprise!

By now most of us could not feel our fingers, toes, faces, legs, arms, pretty much our whole bodies were frozen, it was an extremely cold night! We all got hot chocolates to try and help warm us up from the inside out.

We all loved our experience at Luminaria and would love to go again next year, we will make sure to bundle on even more layers next time
